Gunmen abduct top federal government official in Edo state

- Another high profile personality has been kidnapped in Edo state

Bridget Esene, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Edo state, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Esene's abduction was confirmed to NAN by an official of the immigration service who did not want his name mentioned.

According to the official, Esene was abducted on Sunday, January 24, while on her way to church after she was followed by the assailants to Iqueniro area, off Agbor Road, in the state capital.

She was dragged out of her car and taken to their waiting vehicle. The immigration official went on to note that the abductors are yet to speak with her family.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the police spokesperson in the state, did not confirm or deny the abduction, saying he was not in a position to speak on the matter.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the deputy vice-chancellor of Anchor University owned by Deeper Life Ministries, John Fatokun, was on Monday, January 18, kidnapped by some unknown gunmen.

Fatokun, according to sources in the university who spoke with PM News, was abducted by armed criminals on his way in Nasarawa to drop his children at the Deeper Life High School.

The sources also revealed that although Fatokun's abductors have established contact with his family members, they have not made any request for ransom.

In a related development, the Nigerian Police Force has arrested suspected kidnappers who have been terrorising Ahmadu Bello University.

The suspects were arrested by the Special Tactical Squad of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). Aliyu Abubakar, one of the workers of the institution working in the security department, was also arrested for allegedly providing assistance to the kidnappers.
