2023:Yoruba group pushes for Tinubu presidency, sends message to APC, northern leaders

- A pan-Yoruba group, Yoruba Patriots Movement, has pushed for the emergence of Tinubu as President Buhari's successor in 2023

- The group made its position known during a summit organised in Ibadan, Oyo state capital

- Some Yoruba leaders, however, shunned the summit on the ground that it was mainly organised to campaign for Tinubu

The possibility of a Bola Tinubu presidency in 2023 is gaining momentum as stakeholders in the southwest geopolitical zone organised a summit on Thursday, January 21.

According to Daily Trust, the stakeholders insisted the region must produce President Muhammadu Buhari's successor just as they pushed for the emergence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Legit.ng gathers that the summit was organised in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, by a group tagged Yoruba Patriots Movement.

However, the summit was reportedly shunned by southwest governors and other Yoruba leaders with the exception of Governor Gboyega Oyetola who sent a representative.

It was gathered that some Yoruba leaders decided to shun the summit following suspicion that it was convened to promote the Tinubu presidency.

The national coordinator of YPM, Oladosu Oladipupo, asked northern stakeholders to respect the pre-2015 general election agreement to return power to the south in 2023.

He also asked APC leaders to consider 2023 as the time to repay for the struggle and sacrifices Tinubu has made for the party.

Also speaking, APC chairman in Lagos, Tunde Balogun, dismissed opposition to Tinubu’s presidency, saying the former Lagos state governor represents the hope and the future of Nigeria.

Buhari will never support Tinubu, says Lamido

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2023 presidential elections, a former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, has said that President Buhari will never support Tinubu.

The former governor said this during the inauguration of the Jigawa state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reconciliation committee in Dutse on Wednesday, January 20.

In another report, the Oluwo of Iwo in Osun state, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has described Tinubu as the most qualified politician to succeed President Buhari in 2023.

The monarch made the comment while speaking at the launching of South-West Agenda in Osogbo, Osun state on Tuesday, January 19.
