Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard has reportedly emerged as a top transfer target for Premier League side Arsenal this month.
The North Londoners are hoping to own the midfielder for a short period of time until they can find a long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil who exited the club already.
Sources close to the Gunners reveal that Mikel Arteta has made contact with Los Blancos in a bid to sign the Norwegian until the end of this season.

The 22-year-old arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu from Stromsgodset IF in 2015 with so many expectations but none has been realised.
In fact, he has been sent on loan twice to Dutch clubs SC Heerenveen and Vitesse while managing 11 appearances with no goals for Zinedine Zidane's side. He spent last term with Real Sociedad and scored seven times in 36 games.
SunSport reports that the attacking midfielder wants to leave Real in search of playing time and he has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
So far this campaign, Odegaard has played nine games - all of them he came in from the bench and was not in the matchday squad for their Copa del Rey clash with Alcoyano on Wednesday, January 20.
It is left to be seen if Real will allow him to join Arsenal but he could fill the void Ozil left before the EPL side can find a lasting solution to their problem.
Mourinho plotting to raid former club Real Madrid for 1 influential player and it is not Sergio Ramos
Legit.ng earlier reported that former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil took a massive £282k-a-week pay cut just in his bid to dump Premier League club Arsenal where he earned £350,000.
The midfielder moved to the North London club about eight years ago under Arsene Wenger, but subsequent managers have failed to involve him in their plans.
However, the former Real Madrid star has one major setback as he is expected to receive a loyalty bonus if he stays till the end of his contract, a waiver he would, of course, have to ditch by leaving this winter.
