Manchester United were back to the Premier League summit barely 24 hours aafter being displaced by their rivals after coming from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage.
The Red Devils extended their domestic unbeaten run to 13 games after another resurgent performance saw them turn the game on its head to continue their frightening form on the road.
Prior to the match, some pressure was on the Red Devils after their neighbors Manchester City went top of the table after a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
And United got off to the worst possible start after Fulham snatched an unlikely lead courtesy of Ademola Lookman who timed a run for a André Zambo Anguissa ball to perfection to smash the ball in the bottom corner.
The goal did anything but raise any alarm among Manchester United players, who have made it a habit of coming from behind to claim dramatic wins.
Solskjaer had switched it up in terms of team selection on the day as he started Edinson Cavani at the expense of Marcus Rashford and the 33-year old summer signing found the equaliser in the 22nd minute after a series of United attacks.
Cavani scored the rebound after Alphonse Areola fumbled a cross from Bruno Fernandes who had hit the post earlier with a powerful shot.
United were well in control after the equaliser as they searched for the winner but the two sides went into the break level.
The visitors claimed the lead in special fashion courtesy of their in-form midfielder Paul Pogba who once again repaid Solskjaer for the faith he has shown in him over the last few weeks.
Pogba exhibited some individual brilliance after curling an unstoppable ball into the net after Fulham players sat back, almost inviting him to shoot.
Areola turned from villain to hero moments later as he denied United a third by brilliantly stopping Cavani moments later.
Fulham pressed for an equaliser and nearly got it towards the end but striker Aleksandar Mitrovic saw his header deflect over Eric Bailly to go agonizingly wide.
The win meant United became the third Premier League toppers of Wednesday, January 20 after Leicester and Manchester City.
