Hurray! 24m poor Nigerians to receive N5,000 each for 6 months, says FG

- FG has unveiled plans to lift Nigerians out of extreme wants and poverty

- This is as the government announced a package of N5,000 each for N24 million poor Nigerians

- According to the humanitarian affairs minister, Sadiya Farouq, the payment will span for six months

The federal government has disclosed that 24 million poor Nigerians will be given N5,000 each for a period of six months as part of the current administration's efforts to take people out of poverty and extreme want.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development made this disclosure on Tuesday, January 19.

Shedding light on the development in Abuja via a statement through her aide Nneka Anibeze, humanitarian affairs minister, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq, said the program was designed to rapidly identify, register and provide succour to people who were not previously captured in the social register, The Punch reports.

We are committed to lifting Nigerians out of poverty - Buhari

Legit.ng recalls that Muhammadu Buhari said the federal government is committed to lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

He told the United Nations (UN) in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, that the Nigerian government was serious about poverty eradication.

Buhari said his administration has started a new programme of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within a 10-year period, adding that the efficient management of resources and the transformation of the agricultural sector to ensure food security are crucial to poverty eradication.
