Despite the crisis rocking the Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the senator representing Kwara North senatorial district at the Senate, Sadiq Umar, has said that nobody can stop Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq from seeking re-election in 2023.
The federal lawmaker disclosed this on Tuesday, January 19, during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
Legit.ng gathered that the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed and the minister of state for transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, have been at loggerheads with Governor AbdulRazaq over the control of the party in the state.
The senator also reacted to the crisis rocking the state chapter of the APC following the purported removal of the party’s chairman, Omolaja Bolarinwa.
He said contrary to insinuations in some quarters, Governor AbdulRazaq was not behind Bolarinwa’s removal as the party’s chief.
Senator Umar said:
“Honestly speaking, nobody can stop the governor and almost everybody knows that, including those who disagree with him."
Speaking on who the APC chairman in Kwara is, the senator said based on the directives of the party’s national leadership, Alhaji Samari Abdullahi is the leader.
Umar’s remarks come hours after APC lawmakers in the Kwara state supported the suspension of Bolarinwa.
The lawmakers made up of members of the State House of Assembly and their National Assembly counterparts said Bolarinwa’s sack was long overdue.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the leadership of the party said the warring parties in Kwara APC would soon embrace peace.

It was reported that this was made known by the Niger state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, adding that the party's stakeholders have waded into the crisis.
In another report, the decision of the national leadership of the APC to sack the Kwara state chapter chairman sparked revolt from some party power blocks.
The loyalists of Lai Mohammed and Gbemi Saraki kicked against the verdict delivered by the Mai Mala Buni-led committee.
