A second half brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka's goal proved to be decisive as resurgent Arsenal stunned Newcastle United 3-0 on Monday night, January 18, at the Emirates.
The Gunners were desperate to return to winning ways after being held to a disappointing draw against Crystal Palace in their last Premier League outing.
The north London side were in high spirits ahead of the Newcastle meeting as they had beaten the same side a little over a week ago in the third round of the FA Cup.
Aubameyang, who found the back of the net in that particular clash once again picked up from where he left in the Monday night encounter, scoring the opener just five minutes after the resumption of the second half.
The Gabonese would have Thomas Partey to thank as the midfielder set it up with a brilliant pass shortly after Arsenal launched a stunning counter attack.
Saka went on to double the advantage nearly 10 minutes later, with the youngster slotting his shot into the net at the first time of asking to capitalise on Smith Rowe's well-placed assist.
Aubameyang completed his brace on the night in the 79th minute following a defensive gaffe that saw the Arsenal hitman tap home into an open net to put the game beyond the Magpies.
Efforts by the visitors to find even a consolation did not bear fruits as the home side held on to cart home all the three points.
The result was enough to help Mikel Arteta's men climb the table to 10th with 27 points, just two behind rivals Chelsea who are placed seventh.
The side will be looking to build on the momentum when they take on Southampton in their next league match.
