Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has urged people of the southeast to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Abia state governor in a tweet on Monday, January 18, said the APC’s ongoing registration of new members and re-validation of old membership affords an opportunity for Igbo people to join the winning team.
The lawmaker suggested that joining the party is beneficial because the APC is committed to a united and indivisible Nigeria.
He said:
"As our great party, @OfficialAPCNg gears towards registration of new members & re-validation of old membership, it's important for Ndigbo & other Nigerians to use this rare opportunity to join the winning team. We're committed to a United, Indivisible & Prosperous Nigeria."
Meanwhile, the new leadership of the Igbo apex group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said that the mandate handed over to them is to produce a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2023.
The newly elected spokesman of the body, Alex Ogbonna, made this known during an interview with the Daily Sun newspaper published on Saturday, January 16.
Ogbonna said that they were optimistic about achieving the mandate, adding that those who think Professor George Obiozor is a stooge in the hands of President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Hope Uzodinma, and the APC to give him a chance.
In another report, Senator Kabiru Gaya has expressed his desire for the southern region of the country to produce the next president of Nigeria.
The Kano south senator said that with the completion of President Buhari’s eight-year tenure in 2023, it would be unfair for the north to vie for the nation’s number one position again.
He made the comment in an interview with the Daily Sun newspaper published on Saturday, January 16.
Still on politics, a group, the Coalition of South East Professionals Network in Nigeria and Diaspora (CSEPNND) accused Nnamdi Kanu of working against the chances of the southeast zone to produce the next president in 2023.
The organisation claimed the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is being used by a politician to fight against the prospects of Igbo presidency.
