NIN: FG given fresh ultimatum on enrolment as NIMC staff threaten strike

Barely a week after suspending their strike action, the staff of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have vowed to shun work if their demands are not addressed by the federal government.
This warning was issued on Wednesday, January 13, as the NIMC workers urged the government to judiciously utilise the advantage of the 20-day window of the suspended industrial action to entertain their demands.
Speaking on Channels TV, Asekokhai Lucky, chairman of Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) NIMC chapter, said the meeting between both parties to address the aggrieved workers' demands has not yet held.

Legit.ng recalls that officials of NIMC decided to embark on a nationwide strike beginning from Thursday, January 7.
The NIMC staff who staged a protest on that day complained that they were denied allowances and a suitable working condition.
But in a U-turn development on Friday, January 8, in Abuja, Lucky said the strike was suspended after a meeting between the leadership of the agency and minister of communication and digital economy Isa Pantami.
According to him, workers of the commission across the country were being contacted to resume work by Monday, January 11, and begin the enrolment of citizens for the NIN.
However, with the demands still on the table unaddressed, NIMC said its workers would have no choice than to embark on strike.

Meanwhile, with the February 9 deadline given on the full linkage of NIN with Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) drawing closer, there are indications that the process may not be fully materialised for some reasons, Legit.ng's findings revealed.
According to findings, the NIN process is being hindered nationwide, and this is as a result of a shortage of facilities that can cater for the large number of Nigerians who are ready to enrol.
Another reason is inadequate handling of the process by the licensed centres approved by the federal government across the country.
