A youth corps member, Princess Odume, who was arrested for allegedly killing a man in Akwa Ibom state, has reportedly confessed to committing the act in self-defense.
According to Sahara Reporters, the lady made the claim in a confessional statement to the police.
The publication stated that Odume’s statement was confirmed by the police spokesperson in the state, Odiko Macdon.
The police said the young man killed by Odume has been identified as Japhet Akwaowo.
According to the spokesperson for the police:
"She actually killed the young man identified as Akwaowo Japhet. She said she went to buy bean cake, akara, and saw a man that beckoned to her to come over to him. She said she went to meet him, they got talking and she found herself in his house.
"She said she waited for him outside and he went inside to bring a knife. He said he was going to stab her and no one would know what happened.
"She also said Japhet asked her to remove her clothes and she refused. What basically happened was that she overpowered him."
Macdon told The Punch that the suspect will be charged to court when the investigation into the matter is concluded.
He said the commissioner of police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter.
Legit.ng had reported that the corp member was arrested on Sunday, January 10, when she attempted to flee the scene of the incident.
A Facebook user, Godwin George, claimed that Princess was beaten to a stupor and stripped naked by a mob after she was caught trying to escape by jumping over a fence.
