In what may annoy many politicians from the northern part of the country, it seems Pat Utomi, has discovered why they have a phobia for restructuring.
According to the professor of political economy, some politicians in the north are afraid of restructuring because they are uncertain about where it will lead them, The Cable reports.
He disclosed this while speaking at a virtual media parley ahead of the ‘Never Again’ conference to mark 51 years after the civil war.
Utomi also alleged that the north is not productive which is the result of their over-reliance on the federal government for their share of revenue.
He said:
“There is a real crisis in the north that the south does not understand. They are painters of people who hate each other very much; that is the truth of the matter. That is why they are scared of restructuring because they don’t know where it will lead them, and outside of Nigeria, they are formless; there is no north."
The professor urged them to dismiss the fears they harbour, adding that restructuring will be in their best interest.
He claimed these will help them become productive and move away from the poverty status.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have reacted to Utomi's statement with many supporting and others blasting him for his views.
Alfa Saba Mohammed in his reaction on Facebook wrote:
"All these statements and paper presentation on social media are rubbish. If any region or groups of individuals wanted real restructuring there are representatives from those areas who should be capable of proposing a bill at national assembly instead of constant noise making on social media without results.
"We all know that the present actors in Nigeria political system are using weak system to achieve their personal interest leaving the larger populace to suffer."
Jani Yusuf also added:
"Your perception of the North is wrong and It seems your political education is only academic not in tandem with reality. The north were self serving until the colonialists forced us in to this hatred ridden union. I admit there are lazy and poor people in the north, but the Igbos are the greatest beneficiaries of the Nigerian project. We don't want any restructuring, what the North needs is absolute separations from any union with Igbos. Stop hiding and pretending, in Nigeria we are just been forced to be together. Let everyone find his way out period."
Recall that Legit.ng reported that Utomi stated that Nigerian leaders should be ashamed the older generation enjoyed a better living standard than the current youths.
Utomi, who is also a management expert, made this known during an event held in Kuto Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Legit.ng gathers that the event themed “Public-Private Partnership for the Development of Ogun State” was to organised to publicise the installation Ladi Adebutu as the Lisa Aje of Egbaland.
