PDP congratulates Obiozor as he emerges new president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated Nigeria's former ambassador to the United States of America, Israel and Cyprus, Professor George Obiozor, on his election as the president-general of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The party also extolled the leaders and the people of the southeast for successfully electing a new leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization.
This was revealed in a statement released by the opposition party sighted by Legit.ng on Twitter on Monday, January 11.
The PDP called on Professor Obiozor to use his new assignment to further rally compatriots in the efforts to rescue Nigeria from misrule and return her to the path of peace and national cohesion.
The party also commended the outgoing leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo for a very fruitful tenure.
APC reacts to Obiozor's victory
In a related development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has also congratulated Obiozor on his emergence as the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In a statement by its secretary of the national caretaker committee John Udoedehe, the ruling party expressed readiness to partner and work with the new leadership of the socio-political association towards a "shared development."
The ruling party said its leadership under Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state will ensure a smooth relationship with the leadership of the group in order to give the southeast region its "deserved political standing in the country."

Legit.ng had reported that Obiozor polled 304 votes to emerge the winner in the election conducted by the southeast leader's group.
In an election held in Owerri, Imo state capital on Sunday, January 10, the former Nigerian ambassador was declared the winner by Chief Gary Igariewe-led electoral committee.
New faction emerges in Ohanaeze
Meanwhile, a new faction of Ohanaeze has emerged with Chief Chidi Ibe and Uche Okwukwu elected as president and vice respectively.
This is coming hours after Professor Obiozor was declared the president-general of the socio-political group in the southeast.
The factional VP Okwuwu described the election conducted in Owerri by the electoral committee led by Chief Gary Igariewe as illegal, null and void.
Nigerians react to Obiozor's victory
Osuji Ifeanyi Philips said on Facebook:
"Uncle you are very sound and will lead Ohanaeze to a new and better level, and with your experience as a career man over the years all Igbos shall cart a common cause in our common struggle for an equitable society where law and justice shall reign"
Obiejesi Chiukwuebuka said:
"Ohanaeze is not recognized in Igbo land."
Ken Nerioya Osunbor said:
"Chief John Nwodo was a good president of Ohanaeze. I will miss his verse knowledge about leadership and his eloquent talks. Very experienced elder statesman."
