As the nation currently grapples with the second wave of the deadly COVID-19, the federal government released a protocol for travellers arriving into Nigeria.

Legit.ng gatherd that the Nigerian government is seeking to tighten its borders as more cases are expected to be imported from abroad.

The provisional quarantine protocol signed by the chairman of the COVID-19 Presidential Task Force (PTF), Boss Mustapha was released on Sunday, January 10.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the guidelines take effect from Monday, January 11.

1. Passengers must perform a COVID-19 PCR test not more than four days before boarding their flight into Nigeria.

2. Travellers must register via an online national travel portal (Nigeria International Travel Portal – https://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng).

3. Fill online health declaration form and upload negative COVID-19 PCR result on the portal

4. Download permit to travel certificate/QR code.

5. On arrival in Nigeria, passengers must proceed on mandatory 7 days self-isolation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the federal government announced a distribution plan for the COVID-19 vaccine in the country.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCD) said that the rate of infection in each state was the criterion used in the distribution.

The plan alongside the publication of the latest infection rates for the disease by was published by the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) on its verified website on Saturday, January 9.

In a related development, as Nigeria prepares to receive COVID-19 vaccines, the federal government has put out an advisory to better educate citizens on the relevance of the exercise.

The advisory which is in form of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), is an initiative of the federal ministry of information and culture, supervised by Alhaji Lai Mohammed and sent to Legit.ng.

The government has also assured Nigerians that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, will be in charge of the evaluation and supervision of the vaccines to ensure they are not harmful to citizens.
