Adelere Oriolowo: APC senator escapes assassination attempt

A federal Nigerian lawmaker, Senator Aderele Oriolowo, on Sunday, January 10, narrowly escaped death when a gang of thugs attacked him on Sunday, January 10.
According to Oriolowo who confirmed the news, the criminals invaded a constituency meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Irewole local government area of Osun on Sunday.
Luck favoured the senator as he was whisked away to safety in the heat of the uproar that ensued during the operation.
Speaking on the incident, Oriolowo disclosed:
“Just escaped an Assassination attempt on my life and that of my entourage. To God be the glory, we are safe and alive. God is my helper, my shelter and my fortress, I fear no evil. – AAO.”
Also speaking with The Nation on the development, the senator's chief press secretary, Niyi Isamotu, said:
“We held our regular APC Osun West Senatorial constituency meeting at Ikire. Nobody was armed but every vehicle at the venue was destroyed.
"Shortly after we arrived at the meeting there was unnecessary uproar. With the help of security agents, the senator has whisked away from the venue.”
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, had spoken after the clash between members of his party and the APC on Wednesday, September 16.
Jegede claimed the clash which happened in Oba Akoko, Akoko South West local government, was an assassination attempt on his life.
The PDP governorship candidate said 15 vehicles in his convoy were destroyed while some of his supporters sustained injuries.

Legit.ng gathered that Jegede made this known at a press conference in Akure, adding that the attack was a manifestation of an earlier threat by a chieftain of the APC whose name he did not mention.
