Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki has expressed delight over his victory in the certificate forgery case brought against him by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a brief statement that he released on Saturday, January 9, the governor described the verdict as a victory for the rule of law.
He said the lawsuit was just a waste of his and Edo people's time by some desperate individuals who want to get to the government house through the backdoor.
Governor Obaseki said:
"The verdict of the Federal High Court, delivered by Honourable Justice Ahmed Mohammed on the allegation of certificate forgery is well-received and a victory for the rule of law."
"The suit was a most needless attempt by desperate individuals trying to undo the will of the people through the backdoor but we are happy today that justice and truth have prevailed."
The governor, who moved from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) some weeks before his reelection, thanked the judiciary for standing by the truth.
He also thanked his party and President Buhari for their support.
"My profound gratitude goes to the judiciary who have stood indefatigably for truth and justice; the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR); my party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); our party leaders and members; my teeming supporters; the good people of Edo State and all Nigerians."
