EFCC quizzes Cross River state commissioner over alleged shady deals

A report by Premium Times indicates that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) interrogated Cross River state commissioner for environment, Mfon Bassey.
According to the report, Bassey was picked up from his residence in Calabar, Thursday, January 7, by some EFCC operatives.
The commissioner was questioned by the anti-graft agency over alleged “shady deals” with persons linked to top officials of the Cross River state government.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren confirming the incident noted that the commissioner was only invited based on a petition.
Uwujaren added that Bassey was neither arrested nor detained by the anti-graft agency.
However, Asu Okang, the Cross River state commissioner for information said he was not aware of the EFCC’s invitation to Bassey.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the trial of a self-styled herbalist, Alfa Jamiu Isiaka, who allegedly impersonated the presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, and a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Late Maikanti Baru, resumed on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
The EFCC had arraigned Isiaka for defrauding a South Korean national, Keun Sig Kim to the tune of N30million.
A statement from the EFCC sighted by Legit.ng reveals that at the resumed trial, the anti-graft commission recalled its star witness, Dare Folarin who further indicted Isiaka. Justice Abdulgafar adjourned until Thursday, January 21, 2021, for the defendant to open its defence.

In a related development, Faisal, the son of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) has been arrested.
Faisal was apprehended by EFCC operatives on Wednesday night, December 9. The anti-graft agency confirming the arrest of Maina's son to the court on Thursday, December 10, noted that the 21-year-old had jumped since June 24, 2020.
Faisal who was declared wanted by the Federal High Court in Abuja is facing a three-count charge on money laundering levelled against him by the anti-graft agency.
