EndSARS: It's going to take a while to rebuild Lagos, says Sanwo-Olu

- The governor of Lagos has opened up on how long it would take the state to rebuild after the massive destruction of properties by hoodlums

- According to Sanwo-Olu, the state is taking its time to study the situation and make the right decisions

Following the destruction of both private and public properties during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest, the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said it will take a long time to rebuild the infrastructure damaged.

Sanwo-Olu in a report by Daily Trust said the Lagos state government had already started the process of rebuilding by offering support to small and medium-sized businesses that got caught up in violence.

The governor made the disclosure on Thursday, January 7, after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

News about Sanwo-Olu's visit was disclosed by a presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, on Thursday. The meeting between the Lagos governor and the president is coming a few months after he (Sanwo-Olu) revealed plans to rebuild parts of the state that were ruined by hoodlums who hijacked the EndSARS protest.

According to him, it would require creativity to pool resources from all possible angles and sources to achieve its objectives.

Speaking further Sanwo-Olu noted that his administration was committed to restoring the state to its previous bustling status.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Sanwo-Olu said his government would need N1 trillion to rebuild the state.

The governor made this known when the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, paid him a solidarity visit on Sunday, October 25, 2020, in his Marina office.

Sanwo-Olu said the state is in dilemma considering the massive destruction, but expressed hope that Lagos will heal and come back stronger.

In a related development, Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, signed an executive order to rebuild the state.

Sanwo-Olu constituted the Lagos State Rebuilding Trust Fund to oversee the rebuilding of every aspect of the state and also look at the future and healing of wounds.
