Atiku receives Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in Dubai (photos)

Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria's former vice president, has taken an important step by receiving a jab of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Popular Nigerian journalist, Dele Momodu, shared the pictures showing the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he received the jab in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

He captioned the pictures on Twitter:

“Former Vice President, The Wazirin Adamawa, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, receives Pfizer COVID-19 jab vaccination."

The Punch also reported that Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, has confirmed the development, adding the PDP chieftain took the vaccine on Wednesday, January 6, as part of a mass vaccination programme.

COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria

As the United States, the United Kingdom and other Western countries begin administering COVID-19 vaccine to their citizens, Nigerians are still waiting on the federal government to make it available in the country.

The federal government said it has put in place the machinery for receiving 20 million doses of the newly approved COVID-19 vaccine.

The executive secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, broke the news at the presidential task force on COVID-19 media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, December 10.

Meanwhile, the federal government has also put out an advisory to better educate citizens on the relevance of the COVID-19 vaccination.

The advisory which is in form of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, supervised by Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

The government has also assured Nigerians that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) will be in charge of the evaluation and supervision of the vaccines to ensure they are not harmful to citizens.
