Spanish giants Barcelona have confirmed the exit of Carles Alena as the impressive midfielder joins local club Getafe on loan.
Alena’s exit is Barcelona’s first departure of the January 2021 transfer window as the 23-year-old will be on loan at the rival club until the end of the season.
He managed to play just five matches across all competitions for Barcelona this season so far, playing 170 minutes in total.
In general, he has made 19 appearances for in the La Liga having been on loan at Betis during a loan spell last season, but returned to his boyhood club, where he was seemingly out of favour with Dutch coach Ronald Koeman.
Progressing through the ranks, the midfielder was tipped for a bright future at the Catalans, after contributing to 39 goals in 97 appearances for Barcelona’s B and UEFA U19 sides.
With the January transfer window now open, clubs in Europe are at liberty to seal deals to bolster their squads or even offload to cash in on unwanted players.
And with the unpredictability of the Premier League, it is almost given the top six sides will be desperate to add players within their ranks as they look to challenge for titles.
Arsenal and Liverpool are arguably among clubs expected to be active in the market, with the latter keen to strengthen their backline following a string of injuries to their key players.
Super Stars like Lionel Messi and David Alaba are among the top players entering the final months of their current deals.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Kevin de Bruyne has rejected a new five-year contract at Man City that will see him earn lower than what he presently makes at the Etihad.
And it is understood that the Citizens are looking at the possibility of signing Lionel Messi in the summer and would want to have enough resources to fund the deal.
Reports claim the De Bruyne is frustrated with City's first contract offer but Pep Guardiola has played down the rumours that he is unhappy at the club.
The 29-year-old's contract at the Etihad ends in the summer 2023 but Guardiola believes will eventually sign a new contract with the club.
