Nigerians react to President Buhari's New Year broadcast

Today, January 1, 2021, begins the start of a New Year for Nigerians and others across the globe. The beginning of the year comes with tons of reactions, both negative and positive, from the people in the country and abroad. This year is no different.

As usual, President Muhammadu Buhari kickstarted the 2021 New Year celebration with the presidential broadcast addressing the citizens.

You can read the full speech here. The Nigerian leader in his message to citizens made a number of promises including the reorganisation of the country's security architecture, but a number of people are not feeling it while others feel there is still hope.

Some offer words of advice to the president

Anthony Ofuyah advice the president saying:

"PMB welcome to 2021. Your project this year should be how to redeem the larger life expectations Nigerians earlier have for you. And it requires less talk but actions and it doable if you want by your very own convictions not that of the hypocrites around. We are waiting. The failures or successes will be ascribe to your name. Nigeria desires the best give it all. Allah the beneficent and merciful be with you."

Umar Bello on Facebook wrote:

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari has promised to reorganise Nigeria's security architecture in 2021. The president made the promise in his 2021 new year message to Nigerians on Friday, January 1.

The president, however, noted that his government needs to be more proactive and preemptive in ensuring that such incidents do not become a norm.

He said his government is fully aware of its responsibility to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians, adding that they will not relent in learning and adapting to changing threats to national security and civic wellbeing.
