Oyo state okays crossover services, lifts FG's curfew
- The governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde has reversed the ban on churches holding cross-over services on New Year’s Eve
- A statement from the governor also revealed that the 12 am to 4 am curfew earlier imposed by the federal government has been lifted
- Makinde directed religious centres to hold services only in strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols

Oyo state government, just like its Osun state counterpart has permitted churches to hold cross-over services across the state.
In a report by The Punch, the southwest state has also lifted the 12 am to 4 am curfew earlier imposed by the Nigerian government.
The announcement was made known in a statement from Taiwo Adisa, the chief press secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde.

Makinde rescinded the earlier decision after reviewing the pronouncement of the Technical Team of the Task Force on COVID-19 in Oyo State on Tuesday, December 30.
The governor went on to warn that worship centres must adhere strictly to the guidelines put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that barely two days after Osun government banned crossover service in churches, the state on Tuesday, December 29, made a surprising u-turn.
The southwest state rescinded its earlier decision after reviewing its position following the mood of the season.
Funke Egbemode, the commissioner for information and civic orientation made the announcement in a statement she signed.
In a related development, Ondo state government has cancelled crossover service in churches due to fears over the second wave of COVID-19 spreading.
The government in a decisive bid to curb further spread on Wednesday, December 23, scratched services scheduled to hold at midnight of January 1, 2021.
Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, the chairman, Ondo State Inter-Ministerial Committee on coronavirus, made the announcement while speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital.

Similarly, the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel, has cancelled its 2020/2021 cross-over night service.
Winners’ Chapel’s cross-over night service holds yearly from December 31 to January 1, within the hours of 10pm and 4am. But this year’s event has reportedly been cancelled by the church, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
