Barcelona's presidential candidate Joan Laporta has stated emphatically that Lionel Messi can still be convinced to continue his career at the Nou Camp from next summer.
Currently, Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona is not certain as the Argentine is playing the last year of his contract at the Spanish La Liga side.
Before the start of the ongoing League season in Spain, Lionel Messi wanted to leave Nou Camp with Manchester City said to be interested in signing him.
However, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner later decided to stay at the Nou Camp after his father Jorge had a discussion with Barcelona chiefs.
Joan Laporta who was once president of Barcelona between 2003 and 2010 stated that Lionel Messi would be convinced to remain at Camp Nou if he should return to office.
According to the report on GOAL, the 58-year-old made it clear that the relationship between him and Lionel Messi can help for the Argentine to sign a new deal.
"They are two things that are the result of poor management. The situation has worsened with Covid, but mismanagement is part of and is the origin of this consequence; having Leo like this.
"The two things are reversible. The situation of the club is reversible and the Leo issue, I hope too.
"I think the most important thing is that Leo said he will wait for a new president to decide and, therefore, he would be willing to listen to Barca's proposal.''
