Road accident along Kaduna-Abuja highway claims 12 lives, 25 others injured

Not fewer than 12 persons have lost their lives in a fatal road crash which occurred at kilometre 26 along Kaduna-Abuja highway, a report by Daily Trust has stated.
The newspaper added that 25 others were also injured in the auto crash and are now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
Legit.ng gathers that some livestock also perished in the ugly incident which has been confirmed by Samuel Aruwa, Kaduna state's commissioner of internal security and home affairs.

Aruwa explained that the accident which involved a trailer was caused by a combination of speeding, road defects, driving against the direction of traffic, and loss of control.
The commissioner also led extensive patrols along the Kaduna-Abuja highway to enforce compliance with the ban on driving against the direction of traffic.
He said Governor Nasir El-Rufai expressed sadness at the report of the fatal accident and commiserated with the families of the deceased while wishing the injured quick recovery.
Aruwan said the governor also enjoined citizens plying the highway to desist from dangerous and potentially disastrous practices like speeding, overloading, reckless driving and driving against the flow of traffic.

In another report, bandits on Thursday night, December 17 attacked Gora Gan community in Zangon Kataf local government and killed seven persons.
Aruwan also confirmed the attack, adding that troops repelled the attackers, stabilized the general area, and retrieved corpses of seven persons.
He said security agencies further reported that one person was injured in the attack while 13 houses and two shops were burnt.
