Buhari says army worked extremely hard to secure release of abducted students

- The rescue of some students who were abducted by gunmen from a school in Kankara, Katsina state has continued to generate reactions

President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken about the efforts that went into the rescue of the kidnapped students of the Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina state.

The Nigerian leader disclosed that Governor Aminu Bello Masari and the Nigerian Amy worked extremely hard to get the students back safely.

According to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, a presidential aide on Thursday, December 17, Buhari described the return of the boys as a big relief to their families and the entire country.

He expressed the nation’s appreciation for the steps taken by all involved to make their release possible.

He commended the security agencies for providing the environment for the safe release of the hostages.

The president assured Nigerians that his administration is aware of its responsibility to protect the life of citizens being detained by terrorists or bandits elsewhere in the country.

He urged Nigerians to be patient and fair to the administration as it deals with the problems of security, economy, and corruption.

Buhari said:

“When we came, we made efforts that yielded the return of the Chibok Girls. When a similar incident of school abduction happened at Dapchi, we successfully returned all but one of the more than one hundred abductees. When this latest incident happened, we put in our efforts and today we have this result to show.”

He prayed for the full recovery of the rescued students.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that a Nigerian governor from a northwest state is behind the attacks by bandits in the region.

The spokesperson for the party, Yekini Nabena made the accusation in a statement on Thursday, December 17, in Abuja, Vanguard reported.

He claimed that intelligence reports had linked the governor to the heightened cases of banditry, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.
