World's richest man Elon Musk splashes N20bn on top education outfit

Tesla CEO and world's richest man Elon Musk has surprised a top education outfit with a staggering amount of money.

Musk who returned to the number 1 spot on the world rich list on Tuesday, January 12, gifted the Khan Academy with the sum of N20bn as a way of supporting their activities.

Khan Academy founder and boss Salman Khan confirmed this development in a YouTube post on Monday.

The scholarly man was full of praise for the electric-car producer and even asked him if "...he is really feeling good about this."

"This is going to allow us to accelerate all sorts of content. Our aspirations are all subjects -- from kids to early stages of college. This will accelerate our science content, allow us to do more early learning, allow us to make the software and the practice that much more engaging."

The donation was made to the online learning education group through the Musk Foundation; a non-profit organisation known for lending support to research work in paediatrics, human space exploration, renewable energy and engineering.

With over 120 million registered users and 30 million students from around the world, Khan academy is the first-stop for anyone looking to acquire knowledge from anywhere in the world without the confines of a classroom or school building.

They provide resource materials like videos, practical exercises and personalised learning dashboards with over 36 language translations. The platform is also commonly used among teachers and now frequented by parents.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported on Elon Musk's reaction to a comparison made by Nigeria rapper Erigga.

On Friday, January 8, Erigga tweeted while interacting with his fans, asking them to choose between having dinner with Elon Musk or be given two bitcoins.
