Barely days after about 600 students were abducted in Kankara local government area of Katsina state, another attack by suspected bandits in northern Nigeria has reportedly resulted in the abduction of about 19 people.
The latest incident reportedly occurred in Ogu and Tegina communities in Rafi local government area of Niger state.
A government official who spoke anonymously to the Nigerian Tribune confirmed the attack.
He told the newspaper that residents in the affected community informed him via a telephone that bandits invaded Tegina community on Sunday morning, December 13.

He said:
“The gunmen in their large numbers had arrived Ogu on their Operational Motorcycles. Before we knew and in a twinkle of an eye, they started shooting into the air. They ransacked people’s houses, and forcefully take away every imaginable valuable item including unspecified sums of money that they could lay their hands on. They also abducted six persons from Ogu."
Daily Trust reported that the attack on Tegina reportedly occurred at about 12:30 am on Monday, December 14.
The newspaper said a resident, Sani Gamachindo, in a phone conversation disclosed that thirteen persons were abducted in the attack.
Gamachindo explained.
“The gunmen entered the room of my daughter that night. But, she hid herself under the bed, while her husband went up the ceiling. When the gunmen entered their room, they spent like thirty minutes and ate almost all the food in the kitchen. Thank God, they were not abducted. But, thirteen persons were kidnapped."
Meanwhile, the presidency has again stated that out of the over 300 students abducted by suspected bandits in Kankara local government area of Katsina state, only 10 students are still in the den of the kidnappers.
Garba Shehu, senior media and publicity aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, made this confirmation in a tweet on Monday, December 14, amid national outrage over the abduction the students on Friday, December 11.
He said the students who have returned told the military source that 10 of their colleagues are still with the kidnappers.
