PDP suspends southwest caretaker committee chairman over negligence of duty

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, December 13, announced the suspension of its southwest zonal caretaker committee chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro.
In a report by Vanguard, Ogungbenro was suspended for negligence of duty, according to the PDP.
The opposition party explained that since the caretaker committee chairman was appointed he has failed to call any meeting.
The decision was taken by seven out of the 12 members in the caretaker committee during the party's meeting in Ibadan, Oyo state on Sunday, December 13.
The caretaker committee urged the party's National Working Committee (NWC) to appoint another chairman pending the conduct of the zonal congress.
The committee went on to appoint Lere Olayinka, the media aide to former Governor Ayodele Fayose as the southwest spokesperson for the PDP.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the NWC of the PDP constituted a state caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party in Ebonyi state in line with the provisions of its constitution.
This follows the dissolution of the Ebonyi state exco by the NWC earlier after Governor Dave Umahi defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Honourable Fred Udeogu will serve as the committee chairman, while Barrister Luke Nwkwegu will serve as secretary.
In a related development, Uche Secondus has opened up on the party zoning the 2023 presidency to the southeast.
Secondus, who is the national chairman of the PDP, said the party would not be drawn to the politics of zoning its 2023 presidential ticket until the committee set up to review the performance in the 2019 general elections submits its report.
