President Buhari orders army, police to rescue abducted Katsina students

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the army and the police to go after the bandits who attacked and abducted students from the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu on Saturday, December 12.

The statement noted that Buhari charged the security forces to ensure that no student is missing or harmed.

The president who condemned the attack said he has directed the reinforcement of security of all schools in line with the policy of his administration to keep schools safe.

He said:

“I strongly condemn the cowardly bandits’ attack on innocent children at the Science School, Kankara. Our prayers are with the families of the students, the school authorities and the injured."

The Nigerian leader pledged to continue to support the police and military struggle against terrorists and bandits.

The president stated that he has been receiving briefing from the Katsina governor Aminu Bello Masari, and the chief of army staff, General Tukur Buratai, about the ongoing efforts to rescued the abducted students.

He disclosed that the military, supported by airpower, has located the bandits’ enclave at Zango/Paula forest in Kankara.

Buhari said security forces are battling the bandits and that so far, there has not been reported any student casualty.

Meanwhile, in efforts to tackle the rising spate of criminality and insecurity in the country, President Buhari has called on all governors in the federation to partner local communities.

The president said it is necessary for the governors to work more with traditional rulers and community members.

According to Buhari, in a statement released by his aide on media, Garba Shehu, this will help improve local intelligence gathering. He said most importantly, this will aid the work of security agencies in tackling the insecurity menace.
