President Buhari arrives Katsina for private visit

- After staying about a year without visiting his home state, President Buhari has landed in Daura

- According to the presidency, the Nigerian leader will spend a week within which he will be occupied with private engagements

- However, President Buhari will virtually attend the FEC meeting which will hold on Wednesday, December 16

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived his hometown, Daura, Katsina state for a weeklong private visit.

This was disclosed in a statement seen by Legit.ng which was released by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Friday, December 11.

Legit.ng gathers that the president was received at the Umaru Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina by GovernorAminu Bello Masari and his deputy, Mannir Yakubu.

In Daura, President Buhari was received by the Emir, His Highness Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, who led the members of the Emirate Council.

Shortly after his arrival, the president received the gift of a horse and a decorated sword in his capacity as Bayajiddan Daura from the Emir.

According to the statement, President Buhari will carry out a number of private engagements while in Daura.

However, he will participate virtually in the meeting of the Federal Executive Council on Wednesday, December 16.

President Buhari had last visited his hometown in December 2019, having stayed away due largely to the coronavirus pandemic.

Reacting to the president's visit, Ibraheem Pakious said on Facebook:

"May the Almighty God protect our president and safe return back to the nation capital."

Dabbit Bulus Tanquo said:

"Stay safe and blessed always our president. We hope after this week long rest you will be fully charged to improve in providing leadership to the country."

John Adeosun said:

"This same govt asked us not travel for Christmas. I will soon leave for my village on a private visit. Please send helicopter to me and see if the king in my town will not come to welcome me home"

Meanwhile, the Nigerian presidency has again issued a stern warning to individuals, groups giving specific timelines for President Buhari to do one thing or another or else Nigeria will break up.

Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, in a series of tweets on Friday, December 11, described the outbursts as unpatriotic, adding that they were unwarranted.

According to the media aide, the Buhari-led government will not succumb to threats and take any decision out of pressure at a time when Nigeria’s full attention is needed to deal with security challenges and the COVID-19 health crisis.
