The police have recovered the mace of the Ogun State House of Assembly which was stolen by hoodlums on Thursday, December 10.
Legit.ng had reported that some hoodlums broke into the state's House of Assembly and carted away the mace.
The thugs burgled the office of the speaker of the Assembly where the mace was kept.
However, the latest report from The Punch indicates that the mace has been recovered in Lagos by the police on Friday, December 11, at about 8.30am.
The Lagos State Police Command said in a statement that the mace was recovered around the Abule Ado area of Lagos.
Legit.ng recalls that a similar incident occurred at the Nigerian Senate in 2018 when some alleged protesters stormed the upper legislative chamber and stole the mace.
The protesters were alleged supporters of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who was suspended at the time. They left the National Assembly with the mace in a black SUV.
The Nigerian police later recovered the mace which was found under a flyover in Abuja.
The mace is the symbol of authority of the parliament.
