US election: Biden says calls to defund the police made Democrats suffer losses

Leaked audio reportedly obtained by The Intercept has purported that Joe Biden said the Republicans used the defund police movement to defeat Democrats in down-ballot races in the November election.

USA Today reported that the projected winner of the US presidential election made the statement in a virtual meeting he had with civil rights leaders on Tuesday, December 8.

Biden was reported to have said:

"That’s how they beat the living hell out of us across the country, saying that we’re talking about defunding the police. We’re not. We’re talking about holding them accountable."

The politician noted that the chances of the Democrats running in the Georgia Senate runoffs could be negatively affected by using such rhetoric on policing.

He, however, promised that he would push for police reform when he assumes office.

Biden said the discussion on the reform of the police should be about funding the police to do the right thing.

He urged the activist to think about ways to enable the police to do their jobs better with less force and more understanding.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has shared a video to back his claims that massive fraud occurred in the US presidential election.

The video which was shared by the president via Twitter on Thursday, December 10, allegedly showed some people in what appears to be an office doing some paperwork.

Trump argued that the clip was evidence of voter fraud. However, the president's statement was flagged by Twitter with a warning that his claim about the election was disputed.

In another news, the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday, December 8, voided a suit filed by a Republican congressman, Mike Kelly, to cancel Joe Biden's victory in Pennsylvania during the presidential election.

Kelly's application had challenged the state's law which approved no-excuse absentee voting and insisted that the expansion of mail-in voting was outrightly unconstitutional, The Guardian reported.
