United lost their last two group games to crash out of a competition where they seemed to be favorites to progress only three weeks ago.

They got off to the worst possible start in the Leipzig game, falling behind as early as the second minute as on-loan Manchester City man Angelino struck a low shot past David De Gea.

Angelino turned provider 10 minutes later as a delightful cross found Haidara who struck home in similar fashion.

In all honesty, United were not up for the game in the early exchanges and a number of fans have credited this to the fact that Solskjaer went with a highly defensive side.

The gaffer decided to start with five defenders, including Luke Shaw who just came back from injury.

The move proved costly as Leipzig kept piling attacks on the visitors and found a third in the 69th minute courtesy of Justin Kluivert.

United tried to mount what is now a customary late comeback but goals from Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba were not enough to salvage the game.

Long before the game ended, Twitter was already rife with calls to sack Solskjaer, who took over from Jose Mourinho in 2018.

“I’ve officially cut ties with Ole I’ve backed him for so long but enough is enough now,” one Twitter user said.
“Sack him tonight,” another one added.

Is Woodward still willing to back Solskjaer?

Only days before the last group game against Leipzig, Man United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward offered Solskjaer his full support, adding that the gaffer would receive a boost in funds for the January transfer window.

Woodward responded to latest calls of Ole’s departure on a fan forum via Zoom where he claimed the club needed stability and consistency in management if they are to get back to top level.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cautioned super-agent Mino Raiola over his latest comments that his client, Paul Pogba’s time at the club is over.

United crashed out of the Champions League following a 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig and barely hours to the encounter, Raiola had suggested that Pogba needs to leave the club.

The Frenchman was named on the bench for the cracker and came on to inspire the Red Devils who were three goals down to come close at 3-2.
