Insecurity: Suspected gunmen kidnap Taraba Assembly lawmaker

- Kidnappers have struck again and this time, the victim is a member of Taraba state House of Assembly, Bashir Mohammed

- The lawmaker was whisked away from his house by suspected gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, December 9

- Mohammed's whereabouts are yet to be ascertained according to the family source

A report by The Nation indicates that a member representing the Nguroje constituency in the Taraba House of Assembly, Bashir Mohammed is the latest victim of kidnapping which has been on the rise in recent times.

Legit.ng gathered that a source said the lawmaker was kidnapped from his house behind the SSS office area of Jalingo at about 1.30 am Wednesday, December 9, by heavily armed gunmen.

The newspaper noted that the gunmen who were more than ten in number and heavily armed with assorted weapons invaded the house at about 1.30 am and engaged the area in a sporadic shooting that lasted for over 45 minutes before kidnapping the lawmaker.

According to the report, a source said none of the family members was hurt, adding that the kidnappers forced the lawmaker into one of the two vehicles used by them.

DSP, David Misal, the state police public relations officer, did not respond to calls when contacted for the confirmation of the incident.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Ondo Security Network Agency, the Amotekun Corps with the support of other security operatives, arrested suspected killers of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Isreal Adeusi.

It was reported that this was disclosed at a media briefing on Wednesday, December 2, by the commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye.

He said the team combed the surrounding forest in search of the killers. Going further, he disclosed that four persons kidnapped were rescued during the search operation.

In a related report, suspected kidnappers laid siege on the Benin-Auchi on Thursday, December 3, and kidnapped a sizable number of commuters travelling to various destinations.

Two persons were killed while over 20 others were abducted at gunpoint by the bandits at Obagie community end of the road in Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo state.

It was gathered that the gunmen emerged from the bush and forced the commercial bus to stop at gunpoint and then whisked away passengers into the bush.
