Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, has replied the former president Olusegun Obasanjo over his (Obasanjo)'s comments on him.
Vanguard reports that Adams said on Tuesday, December 8, at a press conference, that he does not have a reason to reconcile with the ex-president, noting that his guarding angel would not forgive him if he reconciles with the former president.
Legit.ng gathered that Adams berated the Obasanjo who cast aspersion on his character, adding that would never go to his house for any reconciliation.
It was reported that the former president and the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland had reconciled their 15-year-old feud at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s residence in Lagos.
Obasanjo, however, dismissed the reconciliation, saying he has no fight to warrant reconciliation with Adams.
The former president had said:
“It is true that I paid a personal visit to Chief Ayo Adebanjo at his residence in Lekki Phase 1 on December 2, 2020 and I met Gani Adams there.
“I have no quarrel with Gani Adams, but for his past way of life which was not in accord with my standards and principles. I have in the past, both in government and out of government, refused to grant Gani’s request to visit me.”
Reacting to Obasanjo’s remarks, Aare Adams said it was necessary for him to respond to the former president.
He said he had yet to understand what Obasanjo meant by “his past way of life.”
Why I rejected Gani Adams' request to visit me - Obasanjo makes new revelation, speaks on alleged reconciliation
He said:
“I don’t know what baba Obasanjo meant by my way of life. I agree with him that we don’t have the same character because he’s not a progressive. Obasanjo will not like the character of any progressive Nigerian.
"I have never at anytime requested to meet Obasanjo as he claimed. I initially didn’t want to attend the meeting when Chief Ayo Adebanjo told me. But I decided to honour the invitation because Chief Adebanjo is one of the Yoruba elders I respect so much.
“He (Obasanjo) stated in his statement that whoever feels he needs a reconciliatory meeting with him should come to his residence in Abeokuta. I don’t have the need for any reconciliatory meeting with him. That one has been foreclosed. I cannot even go to his house.”
