Upon his re-election, President Buhari made some salient moves to deliver on his campaign promises enshrined in the change mantra.
In this piece, Legit.ng, without much attention to chronological order, outlines some of these crucial resolves made by Nigeria's number one citizen.
Ibrahim Gambari
Months after his former chief of staff, Abba Kyari, died of COVID-19, the president had to appoint Ibrahim Gambari as a replacement. By many accounts, Gambari is competent for the office due to his academic and professional exposure.
However, the president came under numerous verbal attacks for making this decision, with many persons from various regions of the country accusing him of nepotism and lopsidedness in appointments.
APC leadership tussle
Just when the All Progressives Congress was about to experience possible implosion that followed the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman, President Buhari intervened.
The president, for the sake of peace and in an effort to save the ruling party's face, advised Oshiomhole to step down and went ahead to ratify a new caretaker committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe.
This came at a time when the APC was in desperate need of a leader after the death of Abiola Ajimobi who stood in as a pillar, though his position was short-lived by death. During this period, Victor Giadom caused no small tension by laying claim to the same position.
Mahmood Yakubu
The president re-appointed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) weeks after he recommended a presidential media aide, Lauretta Onochie, as the agency's next national commissioner and got a lot of heat from many politicians who belong to opposition parties.
Edo and Ondo elections
The Ondo and Edo election came and ended in a way that left many concerned persons claiming that the president did not interfere in any way.
Specifically, the governor of Edo, Godwin Obaseki, actually commended President Buhari for promoting a process that brought about free and credible polls, instead of using federal might as some detractors both suspected and accused him of.
