Sanwo-Olu Congratulates APC, Abiru Over Seantorial Election Victory

- Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is currently one of the happiest politicians in the state

- Sanwo-Olu is happy because his All Progressives Congress has achieved victory in the just-held senatorial by-election

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos says residents of the state still have confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor said this in a congratulatory statement he released following the victory of the party in the senatorial by-election that just ended in the state. The statement was obtained by Legit.ng.

The election was won by Tokunbo Abiru, the candidate of the party for the election to fill the space in the Lagos East senatorial district.

Sanwo-Olu, who also congratulated the APC candidate for Kosofe constituency 2 at the state House of Assembly, Obafemi Saheed, said he was elated as a result of the victory recorded by the party with wide margins.

Announcing the results the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Sunday, December 6, that Abiru defeated Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in all the five local governments in the election by a total of 89,204 votes to 11,257 votes.

On the other hand, Saheed won his closest rival Sikiru Alebiosu of the PDP by 12,494 votes against 2,068.

While commending those who voted in the election, the governor thanked chieftains of the APC for assisting to ensure victory for Abiru.

According to Sanwo-Olu:

"I want to congratulate Mr. Tokunbo Abiru and Obafemi Saheed on their victory in last Saturday's by-elections in Lagos East senatorial district and Kosofe state constituency II polls. Your emergence as federal and state lawmakers is a validation of peoples' confidence in our dear party, the APC."

The governor noted that from the commencement of the process, he never doubted that Abiru would be victorious in the election.

He added:

"The victory of the two candidates of our party in the by-elections clearly showed that APC remains a party to beat in Lagos, based on her achievements in the state since the beginning of the current political dispensation in 1999."
"The successive administrations in Lagos have put the people at the centre of its action, resulting in several people-oriented programmes. This has continued to manifest in the voting patterns in the state."

Legit.ng reports also that although the INEC on Sunday, December 6, declared the APC as the winner of the bye-election in the Imo North senatorial district, it named no candidate as the victor.

Both Ifeanyi Araraume and Chukwuma Francis Ibezim, are laying claims to the APC ticket in the senatorial district a tussle that has led to several court cases.
