Tokunbo Abiru: APC candidate wins Lagos senatorial bye-election

An emerging report on Sunday, December 6, indicates that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Lagos East senatorial bye-election, Tokunbo Abiru, candidate, has been declared the winner of the exercise.

According to The Cable, Abiru claimed a landslide victory over his opponent, Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in all the local government areas: Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, Shomolu, and Ikorodu.

The ACP candidate polled 89,204 votes while his PDP rival was able to secure only 11,257 votes, leaving a very massive margin of 77,947 votes.

INEC conducted a by-election to fill up the vacant seat belonging to the Lagos East senatorial district in the Senate.

The Lagos East senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo on Monday, June 15.

Though there are other candidates in the poll, the battle is believed to be between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tokunbo Abiru and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Babatunde Gbadamosi.

Votes counting begins

After hours of voting, INEC officials in the polling units under the senatorial district have begun counting the votes.

Hamzat delivers polling unit for APC

A report by The Nation indicates that the APC won in the polling unit where the Lagos state deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat, voted: Polling Unit 004, Ward 4, Oke-Balogun registration area.

LCDA chairman Kolade Alabi delivers for APC

The chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Kolade Alabi, has also reportedly delivered his polling unit for the APC: Awofodu Ward, Polling Unit 017, Bariga, Lagos.
