Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian president, has stated that the country's unity is questionable with the youths' continuous affiliation to regional interest rather than national harmony.
The former Bayelsa governor made this known on Friday, December 4, in Abuja during an event organised by the Commonwealth Community Choir tagged ‘Peace for All Nations.’
Jonathan noted that the youths appear not to "have a national youth body, because in most cases, the regional youth bodies are stronger than the national youth body."
“If you go to the Southwest, the same thing. If you go to the Southeast, the same thing. That shows clearly that as a nation, we are in trouble. The unity of the country is questionable.”
According to him, this has posed a great obstacle to the progress of the country, with the former president further saying the case of regional interest over national unity is not peculiar to any region.
Legit.ng gathers that at the event also attended by the vice president Yemi Osinbajo, Jonathan stated that the problem of insecurity is not about Nigeria alone as the world generally is facing security threats.
He attributed excesses of terrorists as the reason behind rising insecurity in the country. Jonathan, however, said he would always encourage the government and soldiers in the fight against terror.
