The Defence Headquarters says the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole has eliminated scores of terrorists in multiple airstrikes on Sambisa forest.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Enenche said the air raids were conducted at Bone and Mudu in Yale-Kumshe axis as well as ‘S’ Region in Sambisa Forest on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.

He said air strikes were executed with a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships after series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

According to him, the intelligence reports revealed a pattern-of-life evidence indicating that the three locations were being used as staging areas where the terrorists store their weapons and logistics items as well as plan and launch attacks.

“The NAF attack aircraft engaged the target areas in successive passes, leading to the destruction of some of their structures and logistics stores as well as the neutralisation of several of the insurgents.

“A suspected anti-aircraft gun station was also taken out at the Sambisa ‘S’ Region as the terrorists fired at the NAF attack aircraft.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a Human rights activist, Shehu Sani criticised, the chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai for saying that it may take the country another 20 years to end the insurgency.

The former senator in a tweet on Thursday, December 3, said the statement implies that Buratai was misleading Nigerians when he claimed the army had recorded victories over the insurgents.

Sani said the utterance by the military commander is an indication that those leading the fight against the terrorists have failed.

Legit.ng had also reported that the DHQ appealed to Nigerians especially those living in the northeast, not to be discouraged by the recent killing of farmers in Borno state.

It said very soon, the Boko Haram sect and its bloodletting will be over, adding that the resort to attacking soft targets by the terrorists is a ploy to instil fear in the populace to remain relevant and cause confusion.

The coordinator, defence media operations, Major-General John Enenche, made the appeal while addressing journalists at the DHQ, Abuja on Thursday, December 3.

In another report, the DHQ stated that only the federal government has the power to decide on whether to involve mercenaries in the counter-insurgency war.

It said the armed forces cannot decide on such issues, saying the policymakers are responsible for making such decisions
