Folwoya Goriji, a farming community at the Ndikong ward of Mayo Belwa local government area of Adamawa, has only one source of water. Unfortunately, it is the same that serves both its human inhabitants and animals.
This sleeping community, according to The Pilot, depends on the groundwater for daily chores and they believe that they have been neglected by their state and local representatives.
Mostly rural dwellers, members of the village are pleading with the state and local governments to address their plight and save them from the health hazards of drinking from the same source with their animals.
Baba Musa, a resident, was quoted as saying:
"We only see them (politicians) during election campaigns with fake and empty promises. For God's sake, see the water we are drinking with our livestock as if we are forgotten.
“Please tell them about our plight," an indigene of the community."
Corroborating Musa's complaints, an activist, Ibrahim Makejo, noted that the community was not alone as there are others suffering same fate.
He said:
"Safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene are among the five key strategies aimed at combating neglected tropical diseases.
“So, it's important for our elected leaders to assess drinking water quality, household sanitation, and hygiene practices in rural communities."
Legit.ng made an effort to get to the councilor representing the area but this proved abortive as he was said to be out of town.
