The novel coronavirus has caused thousands of deaths across the world and brought the global economy to its knees.
As the year 2020 winds down, Legit.ng takes a look at some prominent politicians who died during the year, most of them due to the complications arising from COVID-19.
1. Abba Kyari
Abba Kyari, the former chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari died from complications of COVID-19 on Friday, April 17.

He had reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus in March after a trip to Germany and Egypt.
The chief of staff was flown to Lagos state for treatment shortly after he tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. He had expressed the hope of recovering from the illness, but sadly he did not recover from the deadly infection.
2. Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi
Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, former governor of Oyo state, died on Thursday, June 25, after a serious battle with COVID-19.
He was hospitalised at First Cardiologist and Cardiovascular Consultants Hospital, Lagos on June 2, but he never recovered from the infection. He breathed his last at the age of 70.
3. Senator Adebayo Osinowo
Senator Adebayo Osinowo died on Monday, June 15, at the age of 64 in an undisclosed Lagos hospital.
Until his death, Osinowo represented Lagos East senatorial district at the Senate on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
4. Dr Wahab Adegbenro
Dr Wahab Adegbenro died of COVID-19 infection on Thursday, June 2 at the age of 65. Until his death, he was Ondo state's commissioner of health.
5. Philip Shekwor
Philip Shekwor was the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa state until his death.
He was found dead on Sunday, November 22, hours after he was kidnapped from his residence.
6. Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua
Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua died cardiac arrest on Monday, July 20. He was an associate of President Buhari.
7. Tunde Braimoh
Until his death, Tunde Braimoh was a lawmaker in the Lagos state House of Assembly. He died on Friday, July 10.
The late lawmaker was said to have died a few weeks before his 60th birthday. He had also served in the parliament as the chairman house committee on judiciary, petitions and Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
8. Senator Buruji Kashamu
Prominent Nigerian politician and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Buruji Kashamu, also died of COVID-19.
His death was announced by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce in the evening of Saturday, August 8.
9. Senator Rose Okoji Oko
Rose Okoji Oko, a senator representing the northern senatorial district of Cross River state on the platform of the PDP reportedly died at a UK medical facility.
The federal lawmaker before her death on Monday, March 23, served as the chairman of the Senate committee on trade and investment.

10. Hajia Zuwaira Hassan
Hajia Zuwaira Hassan, a former commissioner for health in Bauchi state, died in a ghastly motor accident.
She died on Monday morning, November 23, at Zaranda village, about 36 kilometres away from Bauchi metropolis.
