No cases of COVID-19 in NYSC camps, management explains

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has stated that there is no case of coronavirus in any of the scheme's 37 orientation camps.

The was made known on Sunday, November 29, by the management of the corps while debunking a report in the media that the rising figure of the COVID-19 is as a result of cases detected at the NYSC camps.

NYSC further explained that it partnered with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to test all the prospective corps members reporting for their compulsory three-week orientation programme.

The scheme also said corps members who tested positive to COVID-19 were handled by the NCDC, adding that none of the current members of its staff who tested positive to the infection was allowed entrance into the camp.

"Kindly note that before the commencement of the ongoing Orientation programme, the Scheme in collaboration with Nigerian Centre for Disease Control tested all the prospective Corps Members reporting to the camps and those that tested positive to COVID-19 were handled by the NCDC.

"The general public is advised to disregard the misleading story. Clarification should always be sought from the NYSC or NCDC on issues pertaining to COVID- 19, so as to guard against the spread of false information.

"The Scheme shall never shirk its core responsibility of prioritising the welfare and security of Corps Members."

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has given directives for the enrollment of serving corps members into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the director-general of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) made this disclosure on Monday, November 9.

Ibrahim, who announced this during a media chat in Abuja, said the scheme has finalised plans with the NHIS in line with the presidential directive.
