The senator representing Borno South at the Senate, Ali Ndume, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

PM News reports that Ndume has been detained in prison since Monday, November 23, over his suretyship for the former chairman of the defunct pension reformed task team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who is believed to have jumped bail.

Legit.ng gathered that while delivering his ruling on Friday, November 27, Justice Okon Abang said he chose to grant the senator bail based on his record of good behaviour before the court, despite that the other grounds of his bail application failed.

He ordered the lawmaker to produce one surety who must be a resident of Abuja and present evidence of ownership of property anywhere in Abuja.

Justice Abang added that the surety must also depose to an affidavit of means to indicate his readiness to forfeit the bail guaranty should the senator jump bail.

He also ordered Ndume to file an undertaking that he would compile records of appeal and transmit it to the Court of Appeal within 10 days, in a way the court wants him to demonstrate his readiness to prosecute his appeal.

Aliyu said Maina's reappearance would stop the current national embarrassment faced by Ndume before it gets out of hand.

He said Senator Ndume had staked so much on behalf of Maina, adding that it’s sad to see he is now paying the price for helping a fellow constituent.
