The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the defection of Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo, representing Adamawa north senatorial zone.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the spokesperson of the opposition stated that following Abbo's action he must vacate his seat in the Nigerian Senate.
The lawmaker who was elected on the platform of the PDP dumped the party on Wednesday, November 25, for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Abbo announced his defection in a letter addressed to the Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
The Senate president read the letter during the Senate's plenary session on Wednesday.
Ologbondiyan went on to note that the senator is aware of the implication of his decision.
According to the PDP spokesperson, Senator Abbo cannot continue to occupy the seat of the PDP in the Senate following his defection to another party.
While stating that the party won't allow Abbo to run away with its mandate, Ologbondiyan added that the opposition had already commenced the process for his replacement.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Senator Abbo indicated that he is seeking to run for governor ahead of the 2023 elections.

Abbo speaking to newsmen after Senate plenary on Wednesday, November 25, explained that he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the state's highest position.
The lawmaker further expressed optimism that he will defeat Ahmadu Fintiri in the gubernatorial race despite the fact that he fought for the governor's victory back in 2019.
In a related development, Abbo described the pioneer Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) chairman, Alhaji Nuhu Ribadu as a "detribalized" Nigerian.
