The Nigerian government has reacted to the threat by the United Kingdom parliament to sanction some officials over the alleged shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters.
Members of the UK parliament had on Monday, November 23, held a debate on the petition seeking a sanction on some Nigerian government officials by the EndSARS protesters over gross human right abuse.
However, the Nigerian government said the UK parliament's position does not represent that of the UK government, adding that the lawmakers do not speak for the government.
The minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, made the position of the federal government known to newsmen on Wednesday, November 25 in Abuja, Channels TV reports.
Onyeama said the federal government is in communication with the UK and has informed the British authorities of its side of the situation, especially regarding the shooting at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos.
The minister said:
“On the issue of the UK parliament, yes, we have reached out to the UK government on this question.
“The meeting that took place was of parliamentarians, they don’t speak for the UK government and the UK government which acts for the United Kingdom has also heard the side of the (Nigerian) government regarding everything that happened."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Lai Mohammed, the minister of information, wrote CNN on behalf of the Buhari's administration over the media outlet's report on the Lekki tollgate incident.
The minister of information in the letter dated November 23 demanded an investigation into the report.
He also lambasted the international media organisation, saying the report falls short of journalistic standards.
