Meanwhile, many people have reacted to the latest development. Among those who reacted are Richard Akinola, a respected journalist and lawyer.

He wrote:

"The family of that shot Abuja vendor may end up losing everything if they continue to toe the path of seeking for a N500 million compensation. So far, Speaker Gbajabiamila has acted commendably. Immediately the incident happened, he personally issued a statement, expressing his regret and he handed over to the relevant authority, the erring security aide, for appropriate disciplinary action.
"He followed this up with a condolence visit to the widow, where he promised to take care of the widow and the education of the children, in addition to taking care of the burial expenses. To me, that is a proper thing to do.
"If they are not careful, they may end up losing all, because Gbajabiamila can say since he is being taken to the court, all should wait till the case is disposed off before he can do anything for the family."

In his reaction, Femi Onibonoje wrote:

"They are not serious. They would lose everything at that rate, even the public sympathy. How did they arrive at 500m in the first place? Who did the valuation of their son's life. They better don't toe the line. It is an unfortunate incident, and we feel deeply sorry for them."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Josephine Okereke wife of the newspaper vendor who was killed by Gbajabiamila's security aide has demanded justice for her husband.

She said:

“Let them show us his picture, not just publishing his name. It is very important for me to see the face of the man who shot my husband. Let the whole world also see him.
I want the right thing to be done. I want justice.”
