Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-political group in the southeast, has been plunged into fresh controversies over the endorsement of Prof George Obiozor as the next president-general.

Nnia Nwodo-led executive is diving down with its reign coming to an end in 2021, in what has opened the possibility for a new leadership taking up the affairs of the group in a few weeks.

But the group has now faced a fresh hurdle in its bid to install new leaders as Nwodo-led executive in collaboration with chairman of Ohanaeze Elders Council (OEC) Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was said to have begun permutation to hand over power to Obiozor.

The rising hiccups have now hindered the planned swearing in of members of the electoral committee for the group's election slated for January 2021.

Legit.ng gathers that members of the electoral committee were nominated recently by the Nwodo-led executive body and were billed for swearing in last week Friday, November 20.

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that Ohanaeze reacted to Dave Umahi's planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the socio-political group warning the Ebonyi state governor not to jeopardise the chances of Igbo presidency in 2023.

It would be recalled that the governor reportedly told the Uche Secondus-led national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he was ready to call it quits.

Umahi made his defection plans known on Tuesday, November 10, confirming the speculations that he is parting ways with the opposition block.

But in a reaction, Ohanaeze said Umahi is free to pitch tent with another party, adding that the southeast region cannot put their eggs in the same basket all the time.

The group, however, stated that the governor's defection to the ruling block should not put the chance of Igbo presidency in jeopardy.
