No fewer than 138 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the director-general of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.
The Guardian reports that Ihekweazu disclosed this during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday, November 23, in Abuja.
The NCDC boss, however, added that none of the infected corps members was allowed into the orientation camps.
He said the corps members are either being managed at home or in a treatment centre.
The NCDC boss said a total of 34,785 corps members and members of the camp communities had been so far tested.
He noted that the 138 confirmed cases indicate 0.4 per cent prevalence.
Also reporting the same incident, Nigerian Tribune stated that the management of the NYSC had earlier denied that any corps member contracted COVID-19.
According to the latest data from the NCDC, Nigeria has recorded 66,439 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and 62,241 recoveries and 1,168 deaths.
