Lai Mohammed writes CNN over report on Lekki tollgate

- Lai Mohammed, a senior minister in Buhari government, has written CNN over its report on Lekki tollgate

- According to the minister, the foreign media made use of "manipulated social media videos" for its report

Lai Mohammed has written CNN on behalf of the Buhari's administration over the media outlets report on Lekki Tollgate.

The minister of information in the letter dated November 23 demanded an investigation into the report.

The minister lambasted the international media organisation, saying the report falls short of journalistic standards.

He also claimed that the CNN report adds credence to the disinformation going around on the issue.

Mohammed accused CNN of not balancing the report and blamed them for relying heavily on manipulated social media videos.

He wrote that in the first instance, CNN's report did not live up to the most basic of the core principles of journalism – balance and fairness.

As a result of this, he said, CNN must conduct a comprehensive investigation into its report on Lekki Tollgate incident.

He said the investigation must be conducted to determine whether the investigation met the basic standards of journalism.

Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have faulted the minister over his letter.

Dave Anyanwu wrote:

"One truth Lai "The Liar" Mohammed lying skills could not handle - CNN exposure of Lekki shooting."

Abiola Oladapo said:

"Mr Lai should have come up with evidence to counter CNN report instead of him making a mockery of himself. What a shame."

Chris Ezenwelu said:

"Look for something else to say. What will set Nigeria on fire is not CNN report but federal government policies and actions that spurred the protests in the first place."

Meanwhile, recall that Legit.ng had reported that the Nigerian government reacted to the report by CNN on the alleged shooting of protesters at the Lekki.

Mohammed said no "massacre" occurred as "irresponsibly" peddled on the social media and reported by CNN.
