The speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has disclosed that he has set up a trust fund to support the children of Ifeanyi Okereke, the newspaper vendor who was killed by a security aide.
Gbajabiamila made the disclosure when he held a meeting with the Abuja Newspapers Distributors Association (ANDA) and the Newspaper Vendors Association, Abuja (NVAA) over the killing of their colleague.
He said:
“Those children have now become my children. I have made commitments to the family to train them until they become adults.”
The lawmaker also visited the wife and children of Okereke to pay his respects and condole with the family.
He described the killing of the vendor as a sad incident that was difficult for anyone to understand.
Legit.ng recalls that Gbajabiamila disclosed that his security aide who killed a newspaper vendor is named Abdullahi Hassan.
The speaker in a statement on Friday, November 20, said he has handed over the aide to the Department of State Security (DSS) for proper investigation.
He said the late Okereke was trying to make a living for his family and his life should not have ended the way it did.
In a related report, the DSS has disclosed that it has arrested the security aide to the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila who shot a vendor dead in Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesman of the secret service, Peter Afunanya.
He also said the officer has been withdrawn him from further assignment. Afunanya promised that the DSS would be transparent and accountable in handling the case.
